Ripping, beautiful personal statement–a near-work of art. He spent a month on it.

Father battled bone cancer all through son’s childhood, but son didn’t want to mention it in the app. He said they’d either accept him on his merits, or not, and that it was “none of their business, anyway.” That’s my son, LOL.

I respect him for that.

UCLA was a poor fit, as it turns out, since he plans to be an animator and there is no direct admission to the major; prospective animation/film majors have to apply to the major in their second year and compete yet again against the hordes for entry. No other school does that. For a prospective animation or film kid, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to go to UCLA as a freshman, since they accept only 25% of those applying from within UCLA and you are likely to be shut out of your major.

Accepted to UCSD & UCSB with Honors, Chapman-Dodge (with great merit package), Loyola Marymount (w/scholarship), CSU Fullerton (in running for full-ride, Presidential). Chapman Dodge has been his #1 since the start. :)

Good luck to all of you wonderful applicants, wherever you land!
