***Official UIUC Class of 2019 Applicant Thread***

Looks like a great opportunity - would love for son to attend but coming from MA in the middle of the FIRST robotics build season is a little difficult - wondering…

My son went ahead and submitted the application. I guess he won’t find out until they e-mail if there is space for him or if he is waitlisted. He takes a class at a local community college. We’re not sure if the instructor will be okay with him missing. We are from a small school district and don’t have a robotics team or anything like that.

Why does everyone seem to prefer CS from the engineering school? Is there a big difference between the programs prestige-wise or recruiting-wise?

ilmomof2boys: my son has submitted the application as well. Will decide if and when the e-mail confirmation arrives. In the past, the decisions were out by now and so the admitted students attended the event. We don’t get to know the admission decision till after the SITE event so its hard to decide if he should attend and miss school for a couple days.

We always worry about missing school, too. I understand why they took away EA, but the waiting is very difficult!

This college process has definitely grayed a fat strand of my hair and shaved off a sliver of life - I am sure!!

I hear ya! I will be so glad when the decision is made!

Son received SITE registration confirmation - now need to make decision to attend or not

My son did too. He’s excited about going.

@takanuva‌ @ilmomof2boys‌ what is SITE confirmation? Is it for internationals too?
Thanks…

Do any of you guys know what time the decisions are released?

@iliveinmumbai There was an e-mail sent about attending a three day Engineering program called SITE. My son received the e-mail at 4:56 on Thursday. He submitted his registration within an hour of getting the e-mail. When I checked the website around 8:30 on Friday morning, it said that all spots were taken. We don’t know if they sent it to everyone who applied to engineering, but would certainly like to know. As some have said, I think my son will be rather disappointed if he attends this event and then finds out a week later that he isn’t accepted. Here’s the link for the event: http://site.ec.illinois.edu/. It does say you can add your name to the waitlist.

@wldb15 I believe 4 p.m. central time, but I haven’t been able to find the time on the Illinois website.

Anyone out of state planning on attending? Anyone from MA?

The SITE website says “Invitations are distributed in January to the top applicants of the College of Engineering.” Does this mean not everyone got it?

Who knows? I encouraged my son to ask other people at his high school if they received it, but I don’t think he did. Someone speculated on another thread that he thought everyone would have gotten it. I understand the idea that admissions might not give information to the Engineering Council about who might be accepted, but it doesn’t make sense to send it to all engineering applicants when there are only 90 spots.

From looking at past threads on SITE it seems that they haven’t changed their blurb ie. 'Invitations are…". In the past the SITE date was after the EA decision date so the admitted students were invited which by default were likely the ‘top applicants of the College of Engineering’. This year … who knows? I am curious ‘how’ a student run organization has access to such info as ‘top applicants…’ without decisions being announced.

What I also found interesting was that the original SITE invitation email is from SITE but at the bottom of the email, the unsubscribe notice is from the U of I Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

You’re right…interesting. I have no idea at this point. I just know I’m going to be a nervous wreck for the next three weeks!

The most interesting thing of all is that a simple phone call to the SITE phone number listed in several places answered all of these questions. This was a mass email. It was emailed to everyone that applied to the college of engineering. The plans for this program were made a year ago and it was too late to change them. This will change next year to reflect the changes in admissions. SITE is aware of the the 6 day gap between end of program and notification date. Again, this will change next year.
