<p>Wow, it’s pretty clear that 800s (esp. 800M) often gets you nowhere nowadays, or at best a defer. OTOH, being a URM is a big boost.</p>

<p>yeah… and int’l students get a big edge from what it looks like.. but then again… SATs are probably 30x harder (not by the questions but by the students’ background) for those centered in foreign countries</p>

<p>I had an interview and I think it might have helped me. She said I was a perfect Penn person. I don’t think the interview can really hurt you, but I don’t know how much it can help either.</p>

While I can never truly know why I was accepted, I would have to assume it was my genuine essays, stellar recommendations, and personal interview. I had the SAT scores, the grades, the clubs, and the leadership positions that all applicants have; It was the personal things that put me over the edge.</p>
