URGENT**** NEED ADVICE*****
I made the cut for the USA Biology Olympiad Open test and am a semi-finalist. However, the dates for the administration of the test occurring during my school’s spring break.During this time, I will in Brazil completing shadowing a physician in a hospital, and I won’t be in the United States. Thus, I need to find out if I can make an exemption and take the test prior to my departure on March 21 (test dates are 23-27). Should i write an email/letter to CEE and request a change?
Please help!!!
@Participant101 Yeah, I would just email the CEE people.
Did anyone else get a score of 1.00??? Is that like even statistically possible?
@Participant101 ask your teacher to email them; ill be out of the country during the period (its my spring break too) so they told me to take it the week i get back
@tooty44 many things are possible, but i guess it wouldnt hurt to email them and ask.
Oh, my God… The normality in the score histogram is so beautiful… #apstatsnerds
@Newdle It’s skewed to the right mate, and the mean is pulled in the direction of the skew.
Hey, Guys! I am also a semi-finalist… Not sure of the details. How does it work from now on? What’s usually the cutoff for the semi-final exam?
After this, you take the semifinal exam next week, and I believe the top 100 move onto the biology camp? I think the cutoff last year was around 28, and it’s usually around there.
@Kazero when you mean the cutoff is around 28, you are talking about the open exam right because the semifinal exam is a lot more extensive and includes free response as well i am pretty sure

Everyone else from my school got their scores…
@Sajidur4 Top 20 semifinalists make camp, and then from there top four finalists make IBO. Usually if you want to make camp then the score you want to shoot for is around a 150 on the semifinal.
^ i don’t think the actual score for the semis matter too much anymore, since it seems that the maximum score is changing. It seems that generally 70% is a good cutoff though
When are you guys taking your exam, mine is on the 23rd, can we make an answer session afterwards to review answers?
@CottonJoe How do you know the score to shoot for is 150?
@SmartAlec Many people say that (a lot of people that make camp have scores around and above 150).
I know a little because my friend made camp.
oh, i am close but not there yet but considering i only started studying 2 weeks ago, i think 120 is a half decent score, right
do any of you guys know how the semifinal exams are graded?, are the part B complex multiple choice somehow weighted more than the part A multiple choice?
Is the list and percentages on the bottom of the usabo content information page what was tested on in the open exam or what semifinalists will be tested on?
