I’m a Sophomore thinking of starting the USABO club at my school. I’m thinking of maybe starting next year, as I think it’s past the deadline to start. However, I’d like some more information on USABO. I heard you needed to be passionate about Biology, and I’m not sure if I would say I’m “passionate” about it, more so that I like it more than other subjects. Also, the task of memorizing the entire Campbell textbook with more information seems daunting to me. So if possible, could anybody give me some input on USABO? Thank you!
Reading Campbell is a good idea but it’s quite long, so I suggest taking notes while reading because not a lot of people go back to read over all of it again. After going over the book, you should watch Khan Academy and buy the Baron’s AP biology prep book or cliffs notes. These books provide mock tests and lab investigations that come out often on the test. Make sure to also practice FRQ questions posted on the collegeboard AP biology website. Also do . all past USABO papers. And for inspiration check out Biolympiads book: https://biolympiads.com/shop/how-to-prepare-for-the-biology-olympiad-and-science-competitions-1st-edition/. I read it a few times and it’s a great source of inspiration! Good luck!
