Has everyone taken it? Or are there a couple weeks with extensions longer than a week? Lol, it’s been so long since the exam, I don’t think I remember the questions I had for this thread.
Also, is there a list with the states and how many semifinalists they had? I remember one being posted last year, and I’m curious…
- How did this semis compare with last year? (easier, harder, same)
- Cutoff predictions?
- 1 pt a piece for part 1, 2 pts for part 2, and was it 18 pts total for part three???
it’s overall easier, but last year there were more difficult concepts that I knew that others might’ve not necessarily been as familiar with…so

I actually thought this year’s was harder than last year’s O.o
But it’s probably just me.
Lol part C screwed everyone that wasn’t in stats over.
It was a badly designed test overall. The multiple-answer TF questions were really ambiguous with directions (one said to bubble all the trues, one said all the falses, and one didn’t say either). Also, the tissue culture identification question straight up had “plasmacell.jpg” in small print by the picture

I feel. The open had 8 full point that were just T/F.
I also don’t really understand why they put a Stats question on C. Those aren’t as difficult to learn later on at camp, and someone studying bio would probably spend time studying other parts. Yes, research kids do those stat tests all the time but I use an excel spreadsheet, not my calculator…
There was a question where the answer was defecation and when I saw the answer choice I straight up burst out laughing and my bio teacher almost DQed me.

i thought it was jumping towards the person since that’s actually quite aggressive
hmmm… i think the question was asking which of the following did NOT show aggression or something. I may not have remembered correctly. I took it waaay too long ago.

Did any one else think that there were many mistakes in the semiexam this year? Why are the USABO administration changing the format every year? Until 2014, points for Part C was very low. Last year, I was disappointed to see that they changed the format completely. Part C - Problem #1: 10 points, Problem #2: 35 points for Northern blotting (I don’t even know whether any one uses northern blotting anymore). Problem #2: Pateint Diagnosis with 30 points. This year, Part C is just 23 points. Last year, I worked very hard and very disappointed that I did not get any points for the Part C #2 and #3. I gave up on usabo after last years’ semi and I feel happy that I am not waiting for the semifinal results anymore.

Lol basically sums it all up. Bio is not only random in content but also in format. Nonetheless, taking the test is a somewhat pleasant experience, even tho I know I failed it in about 10different ways
