I'm sorry to hear that you got deferred. You're international, right?

yup..
shucks. i think deferred ~~ denied.

the email said typically 15-20 deferred EDers get accepted RD.
i wonder how many they deferred...

actually 20/5500 *100% makes it more like 0.36% chance. oh well.

Oh dear...

hey fluffloooz i pmed you... go check.
or do you have msn or sth by the way wanna chat?

flufflooz are you an international student? Is that why you already got your letter or have all of the letters been sent out? =/ i'm soo scared....

and the math was wrong... it should obviously be 20/(no. deferred)*100%

i guess optimism isnt exactly my middle name right now

ahh im scareeeedddddd...do people think they mailed today for us Americans?

I hope they mailed Friday or Saturday...

don't get too pessimistic about deferrals. i'm a current williams student and i was deferred early decision, but got in normal with regular decision. kids here usually don't talk about how they got in or whatnot, except sometimes if it was early or regular, but i know for a fact 2 of my friends got in off the waitlist.

people do get in after being deferred, don't lose hope. i sent one of the admissions directors i had been in contact with previously an email reaffirming how much i wanted to go here. i think it probably didn't help much, but it couldn't hurt. also, my grades went down a tiny bit second semester junior year (which people say is the most important) which may have affected me being deferred early acceptance, but my strong first semester grades senior year in even harder classes probably helped my acceptance later.

good luck! i know how anxious everyone must be right now.

hey gandalf...did your email say how many applicants were accepted ED?

yeah...

"We received 522 Early Decision applications, and the group
comprised of one of the strongest Early Decision applicant pools in the
colleges history...When the entire admission process has run its course by
the beginning of May, I expect that your class will total 538."

I read somewhere that 40% of the total applicant pool was selected through ED...so that means that 216 applicants have been selected now

where did it say 40%...in something Williams sent? or something shady and not necessarily true?

40% of the Williams freshman class for Fall 2003 was accepted Early Decision. This was reported on Williams Common Data Set forms sent to USNEWS.

You could find the percentage for Fall 2004 if you searched the Williams website or the Williams Record archives. However, the percentage remains very steady from year to year.

I'm pretty sure it (40%)was there somewhere on this thread..probably on the deferral letter someone had posted

Sadly, as I have expected, I'm rejected by Williams College. I wonder whether there will be Chinese getting in this year. I have to consider other colleges now...

azncoolkiemonstr, yeah, I'm an int'l student from Taiwan (studying in Thailand) so I think that's why I got the email. And gandalf is right, they accepted 40% through ED this year so... (this is from my deferral letter)
williamzhang, I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm sure you'll do well with the rest of your RD applications (haha, sigh reminds me of how many extra more supplemental essays I have to write, been putting it off ever since).
currenteph (sorry this msg is getting long), any suggestions on how to improve chances for RD? As you suggested, I'm going to email them and reaffirm that Williams is my first choice and update them on any additional acheivements etc. But anything else? Thanks!
Btw, to all of you that are still waiting, GOOD LUCK!!! Hehe!

william... you were rejected? >.<

Gandalf - Congrats, my brotha!
To think you are only one of four intls. to get accepted ED this year - that is simply awesome!
Btw,I will be applying RD, but still hope to see you next fall.:)
Williams Forever!

yeah, I'm rejected. There were rumors around weeks ago. Really unbelievable...
