Ogranic Chemistry at Rice

I am considering premed at Rice.
What is the average grade in Organic Chemistry?

Wannbemd - you are so off on how to pick a university!!! Forget O-chem, and look at the premed acceptance rate at Rice, and then remember that Rice does not prescreen the students who apply to med school like some schools. If you want to apply from Rice, you can. I think the acceptance rate hovers around 90%. But please, do not shop your university by picking the university where you think you will get the best g.p.a. If that was the case, you could just attend West Podunk Commuter College…

I was actually wondering a similar question.

My friend at Rice told me Organic Chemistry was quite difficult but not exactly impossible. However, she took it her first year and I’m not sure that’s the best choice. However, I was wondering if anybody could give me a gauge of just how difficult Ochem is.

anxiousmom, thank you for insight. I looked at C.C. @ Northwestern premed site. average grade for organic chem at Northwestern was between B- and C+. I do not think you can make medical school with C+ in organic chem.

Solution: be above average.

Next question?

Premed is going to be difficult wherever you go. Med school is much, much harder. Gaming the system by going to the school where its easiest to get an A in orgo is NOT in your long term best interest. Don’t let something as trivial as how an organic chem class (one course out of at least 30 you will take in college) is graded be the determining factor on where you go to college.
