Oh %@&*#! Incomplete sentence in one of my essays!

What should I do?!?!?! I just looked at my essay that I submitted 2 days ago to Illinois Institute of Tech (on the Common App) cause I was going to recycle it for USC and I realized that I left out a couple words at the end of sentence at the end of one of paragraphs! I I don't know how I missed this when proofing!

What should I do now?!?! Am I screwed?!? It's Friday night and by the time I settle this it'll be Monday..do you think they've seen it already and shaken their heads in disappointment? :(

Should I call them on Monday or send an email right away? Do both? How do I explain myself? How can I send in a fixed copy?

Oh my god.....I'm so stupid. Advice please!

Well, first calm down. I can guarantee more egregious errors have been made, and very likely several hundred similar ones even at that school. I suppose you could call, but it probably won't be a make or break point anyway.

Calling and changing it could read that you didn't take the time to read the first time, but I doubt they're that critical. Either way, def don't worry so much haha

I've been in (relatively) close contact with one of the admissions officers - I've had a bunch of questions - so should I just contact her about the error and ask her for a way to submit a new one?

Are you suggesting I just leave it in there for them to discover? :S

Lol. I sorta know how you feel. I messed up the subject-verb agreement of the last sentence of my Stanford SCEA essay...a really stupid mistake because I just had to add a prepositional phrase between my subject and verb :(

Anywho...I don't think it's too big of a deal to have a typo or two. While a) it might mean you didn't take enough time to proof read your essay, most of the time it means b) that you're just human.

Don't stress. It's not the end of the world. You can call in and change it if you want...but I really don't think it's too big of a deal. btw...I got deferred from stanford...so the typo didn't exactly break me ;) Still hoping.

You can email them, it probably wouldn't hurt. But I don't think an incomplete sentence will kill you. I mean, I think one of the MIT admissions bloggers (can't remember which one) said that the first "sentence" of their MIT essay was an incomplete sentence, and guess what- they got in anyway.

While you shouldn't be making ANY mistakes on these essays- one probably won't kill you, but it'll hurt.

honestly if i was an admissions director and some kid called me crying about an incomplete sentance i'd through away their application
i doubt that simple mistake will hurt
