Oh my gosh! Rice interview in 2 hours!!

hey guys...i am sorta stuck...what kind of questions should i ask the rice interview...I already know that i should ask them questions about what i am interested in and stuff..what other questions can i ask?
I read somewhere that i should ask questions that make the interviewer "stop and think" but i dont know any.
I think my chances are slimmmmmmmm at rice...really slim...i submitted the main essay, which i thought was pretty good, and two other essays (i think one of the essay is bad or average..will that hurt me?)
please help me..

i just ask best and worst things about the college in every interview. good luck!

Well, I applied to Rice RD at the last minute with the crappiest essay produced by mankind and the stupidest object that anyone has ever put in any box. I also did not have an interview. So look at it this way, you have a better chance than me right off the bat!!!!

Anyway, about the interview, I know from experience that you should simply be yourself. Its not the best time to start researching, as it might lead to more panic. Just be yourself, and if you are really interested in Rice, your interviewer will note that. Just be prepared to answer the basic questions, like:

1) Why do you want to go to Rice?
2) What do you do in your spare time?
3) What are you interested in studying?

I am not sure if these will be the EXACT questions he/she may ask. I only had one interview (with MIT --->deferred EA). Remember, honesty is the best policy. At the end of the interview, thank the interviewer, and send him/her a thank you note. Get the email and phone number too, if you don't already have it. As for questions to ask, maybe you can ask:

1) How was your experience at Rice?
2) Did you find many job opportunities after graduation?
And the like. Let us know how it goes after you finish!

hey guys! Thanks ranisparkle and flchagani but she forgot that she had an interview with me!! Oh my gosh! I mean..could this be bad? But she is an attorney that graduated from rice in 1983 (lol i did my homework) and i did hear some kid voices in the back..maybe she was busy??? Or maybe i didnt "stand" out enough for her to remember me...maybe she saw my file and thought I was pathetic for even trying to get an interview...maybe this is a sign...or maybe i am just too worried...oh gosh! I will have the interview next monday..i really REALLY want to go to rice!! oh gosh!!

wannabeariceowlgirl...BREATHE... she had a kid in the background, that probably means it just slipped her mind, alums NEVER skip an interview because of your file or something.. seriously, SHE will be more embarassed than you worried. itll be fine, good luck on monday!

lol..thanks ranisparkle. hmm...never skip huh? thats good to know.

first of all, i don't think alumni interviewers know anything about you except for your name, contact info, and maybe prospective major. i don't think they are allowed to see your file because it might it might give them a biased opinion of you

and look at it this way, like rani said, you have the upper hand here. she's the one who forgot. just continue to be polite and show your interest in rice. =)

"upper hand"...yay!! I feel so much better now...thanks guys!!

haha good luck on monday then! :p

I had my interview a while back because I think the deadline was somewhere in December, and my interviewer was great. It was informal, kind of long, and he took some notes on what I said. There ARE some questions that Rice specifically asks the interviewer to ask applicants, because I got a glimpse at this piece of paper with questions on it from Rice and lots of blanks that he's supposed to fill out.

Don't be over-prepared and get yourself in a nervous wreck or anything, just be yourself as usual and answer her questions as best as possible. Bring some relevant questions, and I'm sure you'll do GREAT!! ;)

Thanks icymoon..do you remember some of the questions?? This will be my first real interview (i dont consider job interviews to be real because..well, i am not going to die if i dont dont get..but i will die if i dont get into rice...oh gosh!!)

It is worth noting that there is life after being rejected from Rice. I would know because I am living in it right now. Rice is an excellent place to go if you are accepted, but to put your life on the line for an admissions calculus that does not guarantee acceptance to anyone, is foolish.

I don't remember all the questions he asked because there were a lot, and not all of the questions he asked were ones that Rice wanted to know about. (my interview was in November, so my memory's kind of fuzzy)

He asked me stuff about what I wanted to do if I could do anything (I'm not sure about the exact wording of the question), and about any global issues that I was concerned about. Most of the interview consisted of questions that he thought up of himself because he was interested personally to know the answer, and a lot of it was related to my major. For example, we briefly discussed politics and our opinions about a variety of things. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me anytime.

And I'm sure you won't die if you don't get into Rice ;).
