I also visited OSU in the early 80's and talked to people attending at the time. I must say that I wasn't that thrilled when my S said OSU was his first choice. But, after many visits in the past two years, I can see the changes, and all appear to be for the better. It's hard, though, for some of us to remove those negative images from our mind! OSU has done a great job improving, and continuing to improve on all of the negatives.

We visited OSU and found the area of the campus that a freshman would ever set foot on to be much smaller than we expected.

I think Columbus weather is moderate. Cleveland is cold and snowy. Buffalo and Minneapolis are cold and snowy. Chicago is cold and windy. Or how about Duluth?!? Freezing!

Columbus is nice.

Miami is hot and muggy.

It's all in your perspective.

sh60614 notes, "For anyone familiar with what Ohio State was going through at the time, that translates into you were accepted into Ohio State only because of state mandated open admissions and promptly flunked out of Ohio State during your freshmen year--as did 25% of the freshmen class in those days. You're bitter about it and continually feel a need to badmouth Ohio State on these forums because of your failure there three decades ago. Time to give it a rest and move on"

Response: You know nothing about me;thus, don't make assumptions based on balony. In point of fact, I was a President's Scholar there, which is their equivilent of today's honor's program. I had a 3.7+ in business and science. I had to leave because I was in the first draft lottery and, sadly, I lost. My number was in the low 60s. I had to join the national guard to get out of being drafted for Vietnam and transferred schools near my armory where I had my national guard meetings.
I also LIKED OSU a lot. However, I didn't like the large intro classes that I had. I also noted that my experience was old, and OSU could have changed a lot since them. Thus, get off my case!

I was rereading my response to sh60614 and felt that maybe I was a bit harsh in my response. I loved OSU while I was there. Watching the football games with over 50,000 ( and I think alot more), was a blast. Seeing the only two time Heisman Trophy winner in history play unbelievably well was a hoot. This should date me. I also loved the large number of offerings and majors that OSU provides.

I am adding this because I want you to know that, overall, I loved OSU and felt that the education that I received was very top notch even thought I didn't like some things about the schools , as noted above.
