Ohio Tour: Denison vs. Wooster

Hi, I'm a junior girl from Michigan. My parents said we could visit two colleges in Ohio, and Oberlin will be one of them because my grandmother went there and wants me to go there too.
I was initially planning to visit Denison because I had heard more about it, but I did some research and I don't know if I'd really fit in there, being an artsy type. I'd be okay with going to a school where not everyone was like me, but I don't want to be ostracized (or just left out, whatever that might mean) for being different. However, I also heard they were more into the arts than Wooster is, but the kids at Wooster are more open-minded.
The only real way to find out would be to visit, but obviously that's my dilemma.
Also, I'd like to know more about the academics at Wooster, particularly the English and theater departments.

If you are interested in English and theater, then Kenyon might be a better choice than Wooster. Especially if you want to write. Kenyon has one of the best writing programs in the country.

Kenyon is not as artsy as Oberlin, but the students are just as smart and just as open minded. Kenyon and Oberlin are the two strongest liberal arts colleges in Ohio.

I did also consider visiting Kenyon. The only thing that worries me is that I am not the most stellar of students and I don’t think I have much of a chance there. I’m actually not even sure about Oberlin, but I am a legacy there. I have a 3.7 weighted GPA and the PLAN (or pre-ACT) predicted I’d be in the 28-32 range.

Okay. I see… Oberlin is less of a reach than Kenyon because of legacy. Getting into either one is very competitive.

I think Wooster is a good choice. I toured the campus once, and it seemed kind of artsy. Academically, all students must complete a senior project.

Another great LAC is Ohio Wesleyan, just little north of Columbus. It is well know for its fine arts department, as well as science. Very opened minded students. Has a reputation for being “easy to get in, but hard to stay.” In other words, very rigorous. Also gives outstanding financial aid.

Thank you so much!
