Ok GPA and SAT, great ECs, chance for UCs?

<p>I've been working on my UC app and heres what I've gotten so far. I am in-state and a Filipino Immigrant.</p>

<p>What would my chances be for:
UCSD
UCI
UCD
UCB
UCLA
USC</p>

<p>UC GPA: 3.95
SAT: 1950
SAT II: Math II 620 (waiting on Nov. scores for Bio and Math 2, possibly retaking in Dec.)
A-G Courses: 44 (counted by semester and counted senior yr.)</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:
Community Service Hours: 400+</p>

<p>Special Circumstances:
Grandpa suffering from spinal cord injury, Grandma suffering from Alzheimers (bed ridden, catheter)
Mom's company closing, she also has had a heart disease (cannot do strenuous work, collapsed during work and paramedics had to revive her)</p>

Just wanted to mention that USC is not a “UC.” It is a private university not affiliated with the UC system or the state of California. USC will use your UNweighted GPA in admissions, not the “UC GPA.”</p>

<p>I think that USC would be a high match since its a private college, so they look more at your EC’s than the UC’s do.</p>

<p>^ USC’s middle 50% SAT scores for accepted students is 2020 - 2230, and the average UNweighted GPA is 3.8. The op has only stated his/her “UC GPA,” which is a weighted figure. It is likely the op is in the bottom 25% in both scores and GPA, making USC a reach.</p>

<p>USC is known for placing a high priority on test scores.</p>

do you guys think my special circumstance and ECs would make up for my GPA? also if i improve my sat II to 700 and 650?</p>

<p>I am not sure having elderly, ill grandparents is really a “special” circumstance. Grandparents tend towards the elderly and ill in many, if not most, cases.</p>

<p>Your mother’s financial troubles might be a financial aid special circumstance, but it would not be an admissions special circumstance.</p>

<p>Your mother’s illness in itself is not a special circumstance, but if you have had to take on a job to help support the family or care for younger siblings because of her illness, that might be something to mention.</p>

<p>*And about the UC - USC issue - this is the third thread where you have lumped USC in with the UCs (you even called it “UC Southern California” at one point) and in which you have not provided your UNweighted GPA. USC will not calculate or consider your “UC GPA” because USC is not a UC, so people cannot provide “chances” for you at USC.</p>

<p>so…what makes something a “special circumstance”? does it need to have a negative effect on me? because i wrote about my mom’s heart condition, our family’s stress of losing income, and my grandparents who are near death. i wrote that all this drove me to push myself harder and support my family and relatives with the income of my future career. </p>

<p>do i really need to get a job or make money for it to be considered special? because these things really impact what kind of person i am today.</p>

<p>It all depends on how you portray it and the magnitude of your circumstances’ effects on your life. People tend to underestimate their effects when you write:

<p>because it sounds like something from a medical report, not to say that it’s a trivial matter in any way. On the additional info of the personal statement part (550 words or less), you can write about these types of situations. What is your class rank? I’m pretty sure UCs are very picky about it. Judging from your UWGPA, you’re below Berk’s and LA’s average UWGPA, so I’d say those two are reaches and the rest look okay.</p>
