Ok...What are some of the "tough" vocabulary words you guys used in the essay?

I got a 10 on my essay. But I didn't include any tough vocab. I was wondering the type of vocab you guys included on your essay (you know, the type that replaces the words that you keep on repeating?)

For example:
replace improve w/ ---> ameliorare or memiorate
replace see w/ ---> comprehend or interpret

etc.

Please increase this list to include all common words replaced by SAT level words. Thanks!

Crap I spelled the words wrong.

it's ameliorate and meliorate btw...

I used the word 'pervasive' - it means "spreading everywhere"

Use hard words, but not too hard, just varied, or the readers get POd at you.

Don't use them for the sake of using them, or else you'll waste time thinking of words instead of writing.

Instead, only use words that come naturally to you so that you don't waste time. For example, I forget the specific sentence I used, but it was something like this without good vocab:

"Society showed blatant racism"

However, when I was thinking of this sentence in my head, another word for blatant came into my head:

"Society showed arrant racism"

Even though it's not long, it's still a more uncommon word.

Hmmm...

I see. I know that I shouldn't be writing for the sake of thinking of tough vocab. But I usually have some time left over to re-check my work so I can edit out some of the repeated words.

Yeah, just to make the vocab varied.

indefatigable for persistent or not easily tired

I always seem to use the word impetus in my practice essays... it means the driving force behind something.
