According to Collegeboard:

Do I have any chances of getting in or am I completely screwed? I'm an NJ resident, by the way if that would help at all.

I would think you have a chance based on your SATs. Reading and Math are within their middle 50% range and writing is in their top 25% range. Is there a reason for the 2.1 gpa that you could explain in the essay? I would certainly apply and see what they say.

As you are on the low-end of the 5 percent stat - it seems extremely doubtful. And any kid with virtually a C average is going to be explaining away their grades so the question then would become how will your explanation stand out? Have your grades trended up?

Do your parents know any Montclair State alums? Sometimes, certain alums can be quite helpful in helping a marginal candidate’s application.

To be honest, I know people who had worse grades than you and got into MSU. I wouldn’t worry about it. Montclair is nothing hard to really get into compared to other schools in Jersey.
