Check those letters, postcards and emails. There may be a code for a free application.
For us it has been High Point and Xavier. They are relentless.
Yale, when my DD was applying. Nice book though. I imagine that this is the new norm.
Good lord, we received another book today from High Point. And when I say book, I mean hard cover, 60 pages. We’ve already opted out of emails, so I guess their marketing automation doesn’t sync across tactics.
My S never got anything from High Point. My D got one brochure from them, but never applied. I hadn’t even heard of High Point until my D got that brochure. And I didn’t hear about it again until two years ago, when a girl from my kid’s school went (we still get the school magazine that they send out to students, parents, and alumni), she was wearing a High Point sweatshirt in the picture they take of all the kids in college sweatshirts and High Point was listed in the list of schools where kids in that class are attending…
I think Southwestern in Texas wins this time around. They’ve been sending S so much stuff! He isn’t that interested and he isn’t applying. Eckerd has also sent a good amount of stuff, but my S is interested and is applying. For D I would say no one school dominated, but she did get a lot of stuff from SMU and TCU in Texas and from Ivy League schools: she didn’t apply to any of these!
Our daughter was recruited by High Point for athletics. Even after she declined their scholarship offer, she relentlessly received “swag”. Our local Goodwill must have received 4 coffee table books, numerous items of clothing and some virtual reality glasses. UGH!
Got another mailing today. This one was reasonable, i.e. not an 60 page book. And honestly, I found it to be a very good piece, better then most everything we’ve received from everyone else. But we’re just not interested.
These schools don’t realize that make themselves look so desperate with all the emails and junk mail. Some schools are completely out of hand. It makes one not want to go when they may have initially had some interest.
Colorado State and Linfield have both sent a lot of mail. My daughter has complained that she gets a lot of e mail from everywhere. I loved getting mail when I applied but that was slightly pre-internet so it was harder to find information.
We recently got a mailing from High Point telling our kid she could get an instant decision if she submitted her app then showed up on campus for one of their two fall admissions days. I wonder how many kids make a special trip just so they won’t have to wait for a decision.
@Sue22 My DD got that one too! I think that is just over the top and I’m sure along with the decision you get pressured into committing on the spot.
Amazing my D has not gotten anything from High Point but the volume of cards, letters and viewbooks is off the chart compared to what my older D received when she was applying to colleges. High marks to Yale for the best designed (and expensive) viewbook. Yup, lots of mail from UChicago and also from other random colleges that are located far, far away from where we live.
