On-Campus or Off-Campus? Sophomore Transfer

There was a thread about where to live a few days ago, but I wanted to make another one that suited my needs. I'm a CAP student, and it looks like I'll definitely make it to UT Austin for the Fall semester. And I just found out that I've been eligible to sign up for on-campus housing since like August. -__-

Anyways, I hear that most people live off-campus, but I'm a transfer student so I don't have many friends at UT and I was thinking dorms would be better to make new friends (I don't care if their freshman or sophomores because I'm a really young sophomore, and since I'm a transfer I'm new to UT also).

Should I live on-campus because of the friendships I can make, the easy access of places to eat (and I can't cook very well), and it is in the center of everything?

Or is off-campus a whooole lot better as everyone says it is?

Thanks! I'm looking forward to being a Longhorn next year!

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I need to distinguish school and where I live. If it’s all in the same place you end up stuck in that bubble. For my freshman year, I stayed in a dorm and while it was nice and conveniently located, it wasn’t exactly summer camp for making friends. It was cramped and there was a long list of rules - silly ones too (i.e. windows can’t be opened hah, no toasters, no tacks in the walls, et cetera et cetera et cetera!). All to keep you safe sure sure, but some of those things bugged me after a while!

Off campus after freshman year is my suggestion. Take your time and compare.
