In the supplement where they ask about something meaningful about a book, publication, or cultural event, can I write about a movie that has been meaningful for me? I'm not sure if that would be fall under any of the indications they stated.

Can someone help me out? lol. Thanks!

or about a lecture that I listen to from a professor?

I wouldn’t, unless it’s very compelling and not a mainstream Hollywood movie.

what about a lecture that I attended?

It’s books, publications, and cultural events because Columbia highly values intellectualism and diversity. That is all. The admissions officers did not pose this question just so you can write about something else; they want to see if you have the characteristics that make you a good fit for Columbia.

Was the lecture something that was particularly meaningful to you? Maybe write about it somewhere else in your application. But I would definitely save this spot for something the admissions officers are actually looking for.

yea i actually really liked the lecture and it was very meaningful to me. So I can’t include that?

I think I might just write about a book then.

Well, it’s not like anyone is going to stop you from writing about a lecture. But why write about a lecture if that’s not what Columbia is looking for? Save it for somewhere else.
