Online AP Courses, or Community College Courses

So I just looked at my local community college course catalog. They have Math classes such as

Calculus with Analytic Geometry
Applied Calculus
Vector Calculus
Diff. Eq.
Linear Algebra
Discrete Mathematics

I'm taking Precal online as a HS Course through the State, but should I go ahead and take a Calculus course or Linear Algebra at my CC?

You need to further elaborate on your question if you want concise responses.

Take calc/linear algebra at CC if you want college credit for it.

Then comes my next part, I’ll be taking HL 2 Math, and Further Mathematics SL if I can convince the coordinator. However, The curriculum here, even the IB one I’ve learned all before, including the HL 2 Calculus part.

Look at the State School(s) you might want to go to to find course equivalencies.

At your community college the calculus series your want is MTH 173, 174, and 277. Notice that the description of each says, “Designed for mathematical, physical, and engineering science programs.” MTH 291 (Differential Equations) and MTH 285 (Linear Algebra) would be the most helpful after the calculus series, and in that order.

Talk to your CC advisor(s), but topics courses rarely transfer so I would avoid them. MTH 286 (Discrete Math) would likely only directly relate to your program of study if you were doing computer programming, computer engineering, or mathematics, but it might still be interesting and might be pre-requisite for upper-level math courses at some school.

This site might be helpful: [Virginia Tech Undergraduate Transfer Guide 2009-10](http://www.registrar.vt.edu/tranguide/2009/bymajor/index.html) as I’m thinking VT would likely be your safety, and it would effectively be impossible to know what MIT will and will not take.

You’ve got me right, VT is my safety. I’m not sure MIT will take it, but I know I can get further with the CC courses than online AP math courses.

[MIT Transfer Students: Transfer Credit-Advanced Standing Exams](http://web.mit.edu/firstyear/transfer/credit/asexams.html)

There are apparently exams to get credit by demonstrating your knowledge. You might want to talk to the folks on the MIT board, or perhaps even MIT (After talking to your college advisor(s) so you know the basic info), but it has always seemed to me that MIT, instead of being like “our institution is better than yours so we won’t take your credit!,” is more concerned with whether you understand the material or not.

They do seem like getting the Material People.
