Could you suggest some good on line courses that are close to high school curriculum?
For example a pre calc course or physics course.
How expensive are they?

The one I know best is math - Aleks.com. I reviewed it once <a href=“Online Algebra 2 Class (Summer) - Home Schooling and College - College Confidential Forums”>Online Algebra 2 Class (Summer) - Home Schooling and College - College Confidential Forums. Very inexpensive.

There’s also Khan academy, which lots of people love but I haven’t looked at.

CTY online courses are really good, but expensive.

Perhaps CTY, but cannot vouch for quality. Younger son will be taking on-line geometry in order to skip a year of HS math. HS approved course and said curriculum seemed very similar and used same textbook as HS course did. I think the class is $900 or so.

Younger son loves Kahn Academy and edX, but the edX class he took was a college class, Intro to Programming. (He liked the Harvard course better than the MIT course, but I do not know why.) edX course was free as are the Kahn Academy classes.

Brown undergrads developed an Engineering survey MOOC for HS students, new this year. Info here:[Brown University Creates Online Course for High School Students - NYTimes.com](Brown University Creates Online Course for High School Students - The New York Times)

My son took a BYU online physics course in high school. It was not expensive and he received high school credit for it.

[BYU Independent Study - Online Courses](http://is.byu.edu/site/)

The MOOCs are an exciting way for anyone to experience coursework from some of the best universities in the country. To my knowledge none give credit (yet). It’s really still in it’s infancy. My kids have used Khan Academy for years to reinforce skills for tests, or not covered well by instructors. It’s an excellent resource! Do they have programs that offer credit? I believe the OP is looking for something that would award credit.

Thank you,
I m going to look into Aleks and BYU.

University of Missouri distance high school: [Online High School | Online high School Diploma | MU High School](http://muhigh.missouri.edu/)

We’re homeschoolers and my daughter has taken a number of courses through them. They’re inexpensive and easy to work with. Her AP Psych last year had a very reasonable workload and she got a 5 on the exam with very little additional review.

Also Northwestern’s Gifted Learning Links: [Gifted Learning Links :: Gifted LearningLinks](Online Programs | Northwestern Center for Talent Development)

Similar to CTY, but cheaper, but also not as good, but sometimes they’ve got what you need.

Indiana University High School online offers an entire high school curriculum in addition to individual courses.

Check it out with your local school district. Ours had a deal with Texas Tech for on-line high school classes. Inexpensive and getting proper credit was very easy.

Agree with pugmadkate (I love pugs too :)). My school runs online courses through VHS (Virtual High School) so I took AP Physics C this year for free and get AP-weighted high school credit for it.

Here are some of the online classes that we’ve used:

Our school got funding from a local education foundation to join Virtual High School , paying for 25 spots. Prior to the school joining, we paid about $400 for a class at VHS.
