Do I need to spend more time in order to get an A for online courses compared to an in class course?
Depends on the courses and the comparative quality of what you have available to you as an inclass course versus online. My daughter took all of her PE requirements online through BYU’s online high school courses for two reasons, one being that the PE at her high school was horrible, and the second being that she wanted to take a second full year foreign language course at her high school one year and she doubled up on science courses the next year. She did all three courses (1/2 credit each) to the letter as far as all of the assignments and activity tracking and would contend they were far more rigorous than anything offered at her high school. She is health through BYU and breezed right through it in a few weeks. It was probably equal in difficulty to what was offered at her high school, but she liked doing it on her own and at her pace rather than sitting through the class for 18 weeks. The did AP Biology through BYU because she couldn’t fit it into her senior year schedule and really wanted to take it. It was probably equal in effort required for the inclass version. Lastly, she took AP Calculus BC through her high school’s virtual school because they didn’t offer it last year when she was a senior because they didn’t have enough students for a section. That too was probably equal in terms of time required.
@NorthernMom61 Do you think that an online college science course would be impossible? It would be the only course I would be taking during the summer.
No, if you are diligent and do all of the assignments and keep to a schedule you should be fine. You have to be very self directed with online courses, even the teacher guided ones.
