Next year (my senior year), I'm scheduled to take Spanish I (I'll be taking a 4th yr. of French too, don't worry) just because I felt like taking another course. Now, I had a crazy idea of instead of taking freshman Spanish as a senior taking an online course in a subject I'm interested in and interested in majoring in. I took an intro to anthropology class this year, and was looking at taking an online course in something like linguistic anthro. or archaeology. I'm looking at taking this through the SUNY Learning Network Online (I'm from NY so I'd be getting a sweet deal). This is legit right (ie not University of Phoenix)? Should I do this? How should I go about it? Do it on my own or talk to my GC?

Nobody ever likes my titles.....

Hey! Your title got my attention. You need to check with the admission offices of the schools that you think you will send apps. They all have different policies regarding college credit work before matriculation. Boston College will not accept for credit any college work done during the summer after high school grauation. But I think that they take college credit done in high school.

Makes no sense.

You also need to check to see if the schools accept online and distance credits. Even if they do not transfer the credits, it is a good stand out on your app!!!!

If you are looking for a great distance program check out Harvard. It will cost a bit more than SUNY but it is really reasonable AND it's Harvard! (Most courses are $650 for 4 credits!!!!)

Good luck! :)

Thanks, I'm not uber worried about getting course credit (placement credit would be nice to take upper level courses though) I would kinda just like to take courses I'm more interested in. Colleges would view this as a legit way to spend time, right? Should I talk to my GC about it?

PS- I looked into Harvard Courses but the only course in anthropology they offer is specifically on the Aztec Empire. Oxford has a SWEET looking anthro. course online about the origins of humans, but you need to be 18, which blows.
