Online Language test to satisfy the Language Requirement?

My story for the French essay was so crappy (and the silliest I've ever written, too). I guess I should have used the passe simple but I was too lazy and used the passe compose instead. Was that alright?

Alright? I think they would have given you a professorship if you had correctly used the passe simple. My teachers in HS couldn't write in passe simple. I used passe compose and imparfait, and since they asked us to write in those tenses (plus plus-que-parfait) if we knew them, I think it's just fine. Besides, passe simple is for litterature and I know what we wrote surely wasn't litterature.

LOL. I could barely remember the irregular (or some of the regular) verb endings for the passe simple so I didn't feel like taking the risk. Relief. Yeah, what I wrote wouldn't even pass off as a decent short story for a kiddie magazine. lol, I only used the plus-que-parfait tense once. I hope we all did well!

Thanks, dreamsicle and ForeverZero, for the link to the guide. Looks good!

Do you think there's any problem if I take the placement test now, after the dates I was programmed (june 12-30) ?

you should probably e-mail before you do, I think. Just to let them know.

Haha, that Spanish test online was really easy. Anyone else think so?

irish_miguel> yeah, it was. even the por/para questions that usually throw me weren't that bad

let's hope the oral part is nice and simple, too :)

The German test was a b*tch. The reading comprehension was ridiculous.

Too much grammar in the French test! I thought it'd be a reading comprehension, not a freakin' grammar test.

Haha, I got an e-mail from one of the professors in the language department cos in the AS forms I said that I was interested in taking up Latin. Well, they said something along the lines of "we're always excited to have freshmen with a background in Latin" and provided a couple of long paragraphs from the test for me to translate!!!!!! THEN they sent me another e-mail saying "we're so excited to hear that you want to start French" when I've been studying the language for about 7 years. -_-

Ugh, I know, there was way too much about verb tenses. And I even understood the stories quite well so reading comprehension questions would have been a breeze. But I bet this is easier to grade and there are less complaints about the questions. Let's hope the oral is easier. At least we wouldn't have to worry about passe simple!

argh, I forgot about the oral. I haven't spoken in French since May. The most I'll be able to say is 'bonjour' and 'oui, j'aime bien ca'.
