Online Mechanical Eng Grad Degree (masters) -not accredited (ABET) …is that bad?

Does is matter if an online Mechanical Eng Masters Program is not ABET credited? This is a program for working professionals. Though recently graduated with an undergrad in Mechanical engineering at different school that was ABET credited.

How would this degree be perceived with future employers? IS more expected from mechanical eng. students as far as lab work in getting the masters (non thesis) or is it all books as an online program would be. The only program that is ABET accredited is the systems engineering.

ABET doesn’t generally accredit graduate degrees. I think there are something like two total accredited master’s programs, and they aren’t even well-known ones.

Most non-thesis MS programs will have little to know lab work, so I don’t really imagine that you will have any issues with the online degree. Only if a particular position was looking specifically for a thesis-based degree would that be an issue.

ok…i did more research…I found a several schools being ABET for online mech. graduate. I think columbia and stanford are two big ones. None listed (masters) that “s” employer paid for. And I guess if you get the PE lisence then only the BS must be accredited since a masters is not required (therefore doesnt matter if the masters is ABET)

never thought a particular position would want a thesis based degree (unless it was phd) but for masters??? what kind of positions/employer would that be?

Here is the link for online engineering programs if anyone is interested. I think these are ABET certified. http://www.onlineengineeringprograms.com
