I only have 2 years of Spanish while Stanford recommends 3 or more, how will this affect my admissions chances/ will it hurt them? I have a 4.1 weighted GPA and hard classes fulfilling their other class recommendations. My hook and extracurriculars are stellar.
Many hs kids think their own ECs are stellar- and for some, they are, but that’s in their own high schools, not necessarily in the sort of national pool Stanford will review.
Yes, they will notice only two years of FL. If you want to apply to Stanford, you should know more about what they look for than just courses and gpa. And that it matters what level of lang study you complete. Want to fill us in?
Hey, I actually have done a lot of research on Stanford (Since I was a Freshman) and do know it is not just courses and gpa, but appreciate your feedback.
As for levels I have taken Spanish 1 and 2.
P.S. my extracurriculars include my business I started when I was 12 which has a yearly profit in the 6 figure range, not sure how that competes in the national pool you mentioned.
Reaching level 2 only is going to be a problem because that’s directional level… Can you take a class at a local CC on the quarter system? Might be too late but might help.
While nice, be aware that this EC is by no means unique. Maybe it’s stellar, maybe not. But you should let others be the judge.
While Stanford evaluates applications holistically, most of the other 44K applicants will have fulfilled all of Stanford’s recommended coursework, while also having “stellar” EC’s, SAT/ACT scores, recs, etc. So yes, unless there is a valid reason for not going beyond Spanish 2 (e.g. the HS discontinued the program), yes, it will hurt you, IMO.
