I'm a Sophomore in Spanish 2 and although I have an A I just really hate Spanish. Most of the teachers at my school are crap and I don't feel like I'm learning anything. Because of this I'm probably just going to pass on Spanish 3, but I'm wondering how bad this will look?

I think you should at least go through Spanish 3. That’s what I’m doing.

bump 10char

Some colleges actually require you take 3 years of a foreign language. Look up the requirements of the schools you’re interesting in before deciding.

It all depends on where you’re applying…

^^^ what about UC colleges??? I’m only gonna tke 2, cause I WOULD totally FAIL spanish 3.

D:

Check with schools you like on their policy.

TBH–I believe in pursuing knowledge for the sake of learning, not for college transcripts. I’m not taking math or science this year for that reason. It won’t earn you any brownie points to drop it but dragging through a class you don’t care about for the sake of appearance is not the choice I would make.

MOO.

I only took two years of French and I’m fine. All the colleges I"m applying to are fine with just two years.

It does depend on where you intend to apply, but the requirements are pretty easy to find on any school’s website.

I’m currently in my second year of Spanish and I’ve been accepted to Tulane, which is a pretty selective school.

My school only goes up to Spanish 2, though. I wish we had higher levels because I’d imagine that I’m going to have a horrible time in foreign languages in college.

It doesn’t look bad to pass on a third year of a language, but it certainly looks better to have taken it. If you’re just not into the culture or don’t care for the language, don’t take it.

Your school’s Spanish teachers sound like mine… Three different Spanish teachers, all of whose classes are impossible to fail but you don’t learn much, if at all.

My counselor said it’s really really strongly suggested (esp by top colleges) to take 3 years of a foreign language. I asked for clarification and it turns out she meant through the 3rd year (ie: Spanish 3, French 3, etc).

So if there is a student who finished Spanish 3 freshman year, they would be fine.

Ummm I’m not familiar with the UC’s reccomendations/requirements but I’m sure you could find those on their respective websites? Do some research there… If you really don’t like the language/think you’ll do realllllly poorly/just don’t want to take it, don’t. It’s not THAT big of a factor in admissions (unless of course, if it is a requirement so check up on that), so don’t worry about it too much.
