I can certainly understand the, ‘Ooops’.

A kid applies to many schools that are in the same ‘prestige/rank/tier/academics/etc’ in the belief that maybe one will offer an acceptance. An acceptance from one, will probably mean an acceptance by all, in that tier. A non-acceptance from one will probably mean a non-acceptance by all, in that tier. The Catch is that any one of the schools would be great, if only, one gave an acceptance. Coolrunning, needed just one but got four, Ooops.

Our DS applied to the usual tier1, engineering Ivys+MS, and was declined by all. Accepted in tier2 but known engineering schools. As we look back, the quantity of Ivy apps was overly done, MIT and Stanford would have been enough and more specific to what he wanted to do in his life. To this, we/DS could say, Ooops, too many. However, we could afford the app fees, so not doing that many apps would have been money foolish.

DS limited his master’s applications to just 4 of the best perceived schools. Needed one acceptance. But grad school is different in that you train with a principal.
