Hi There, I was accepted to UNC-Chapel hill early action for 2020. I attended Explore Carolina and noticed there was a lot of in state students. I was wondering how out of state students fit in at North Carolina? Especially since I’m coming all the way from Las Vegas,NV?
Keep in mind a lot of those in state kids are transplants from other states. NC has seen a large population growth in recent years from people moving into the state from other areas. The student body is probably more diverse than it appears. However, it is a state flagship school.
I doubt that you will find it an issue. It is know as a very friendly school.
I am a parent so you will have to hear what a student says.
I imagine few people would even recognize you as an out-of-state student.
If you count transfer students, the OOS population is 25%. Some students find it hard to fit in at first (this can be true at many schools, even privates), but after a few months most love it and actually enjoy being from OOS.
Hey! I’m a first-year student at UNC and OOS from California. Chapel Hill has a lot of really great programs for OOS to meet new people and find their niche. Let me know if you wanna know more about the school and stuff, I’d be happy to talk more about it with you (or anyone coming from the west coast)!
as mentioned, NC has a ton of people who have moved to NC in the last 10-20 years.
My entire neighborhood is like that. not a big deal IMHO
