OOS Student transferring into UC System

Hello Board,

I just graduated from a NYS community college and I am planning to transfer into the UC System for my remaining time in college but my GPA isn’t exactly very high (2.8 in transferrable classes). Would it possible to take some classes in a community college to raise my GPA and then transfer into a UC?

If you’re a NYS resident, I believe your GPA is too low to even be considered. The UCs have an OOS minimum of 3.4 GPA.

That said, are you prepared to pay up to 65K/year for a UC if you’re OOS? It may take longer than two years to graduate from a UC if you cannot get credit for all of your NYSCC classes.

My thought process behind it was paying OOS Tuition for the Community College and then once I have established residency transfer into a UC school. My husband and I are moving to California in general for his PhD program at Irvine.

You need to read about establishing residency in California for UC purposes vs. just establishing CA residency in general.
