OOS students!

New Yorker here. Iowa State is relatively pretty cheap for OOS students, but SUNY schools are much cheaper, so I'm very interested in how aid would work. I come from a very, very, very low-income family.

My questions are:
What is your home state?
What were your stats?
Did you low, moderate, or high need?
How much did you receive in need-based and merit-based aid?

Any insight would be appreciated. I'm very interested in ISU, but it looks very discouraging for an OOSer.

Hey I went to high school in NYC originally from Boston so I will tell you Ames is a tiny college town! It’s nice but small campus is really nice! Now as academics goes if you are studying engineering then it is definitely worth it! Isu has the largest engineering fair in the country! Unfortunately can’t answer any of the merit questions since I’m a veteran everything is paid for but good luck on your decision!!

A couple threads down is one that addresses this regarding out of state merit scholarships. Might want to start there. Living in Louisiana, my D got $9.5k in merit scholarships plus another $1k for being a legacy, $2.6k in need based grant (moderate need), and then loans and workstudy.
We were very surprised by how good her package was, making it the second most affordable for us after LSU which is cheap.
