Oos

I’m applying and deeply considering the University of Alabama (Only paying 1/3 tuition as opposed to a fortune at NYU is enticing). My questions is to anyone out there, preferably current students, in your experiences, how do you feel an out of state student fits in with the in-state kids as far as fraternities go, along with other social aspects? My brother is at Indiana University, and while he has met a lot of great kids from in-state, he feels that a lot of the east coast kids that go there end up hanging out with each other and sharing apartments etc. Coming from NY, I guess I just want to know if I might not get the full experience if I’m considered a “Yankee”.

I'm wondering this too, but from an Ohio perspective.

Wondering the same thing here but from Washington State. Thinking the Washington contingent is pretty small?

We live in Central Ohio. My son and I visited this past March. My son is very happy at Bama! He had no problems adjusting to his new social freedoms. He interacts with many different "groups" of students. Some are athletes, classmates, roommates, attend church and different fellowships. He is a Division I athlete yet was not recruited nor is he receiving any athletic scholarship money. He has not pledged a Fraternity due to time restraints.
There are so many OOS at Bama. In my opinion, any social "grouping" is self driven. You are almost adults or 18 years old already. Your college experience is what YOU make of it.
