Norcalguy stated in Post #8 above that being a Div I athlete is a great EC for med school. Realizing that one needs to have the GPA and MCAT scores, does being an athlete give you an advantage?

This is actually a good question.
- If this Div 1 athlete has no research, no volunteering, or no other EC’s, I am not sure if I can see the leadership quality.
- If this individual has all the other EC’s on top of the Div 1 involvement in four years, he/she must be spending less time to get great GPA and MCAT score. I guess the student is super smart and could be a future leader.
- If this individual can accomplish all these and spend two extra years working as an assistant coach in a college or a coach in a high school, the leadership quality is more apparent.

Sorry to bump this up, but I will be applying to Ivys because a lot are need blind for internationals. My question, however, is if there is any difference between the Ivy League schools…

I know BDM and others have great stats showing that Duke is a great school because a lot of people go to med school with low GPAs, etc…but if there anything like that between the Ivy League schools?

Are there any that would be better to attend than others as a premed shooting for a top med school? (I’m not saying that I will get into all of them, I’m just gauging where it would be good to apply and which schools to omit, and perhaps where to ED).

I was thinking of ED’ing Dartmouth…other than the location it seems to offer everything I would want. However, is this a good choice? Is there another Ivy that would be better to attend than Dartmouth if I were to shoot for a top med school (are there any stats like BDM pulls out for Ivy schools other than around 85% of Dartmouth applicants get into med school?).

I know all Ivys have high med school acceptance rates but are there any other stats of real importance?

The only other stat of real importance, IMO, is mean gpa. Brown has the highest, and next would be Yale (I believe).

But to your question: ‘is there any difference between Ivy League schools?’, the answer is a definite Yes, but its mostly social/cultural/financial. The academics are superb at all of them, as are the opportunities. H & Y have the best need-based finaid packages…
