<p>First, thank you in advance for reading if you make it through this wall of stats. Helpful input is very much appreciated.</p>
<p>Second, and on to the point of this post, I'm homeschooled and very curious (not about the "outside world") about the estimated likelihood of my relief on April 1st. I'm aware I have a shot anywhere strictly due to my test scores, but my anxiety rages on. Of course, when one is faced with such a query, one comes to the intimidating and sometimes cold world of the 'chancing' forum. :)</p>
<p>When I attended a public school during freshman year, I had many absences due to personal issues, and because I ended up transferring from a block schedule to a school with a traditional one at the beginning of second semester, a huge mess unraveled. In short, I was left without English I and biology. I ended up self-studying both summer before sophomore year as I turned to homeschooling. My mother will elaborate upon this in her GC recommendation.</p>
<p>I should mention I homeschool because it allows me to pursue my interests to a deeper level and simply digest more. Ultimately, learning is my passion, and homeschooling seemed like the best option to wallow in it.</p>

<p>Writing - I've won two writing contests and just completed a rough draft of a novel (one of three) that is currently being edited for publishing. I'm a three-year participant in NaNoWriMo, an active member of a writing forum, writer of a blog, and have been published in a magazine. You could say writing is the other all-consuming passion, coupled with learning (or Vonnegut and Nabakov, depending on the day).</p>
<p>Volunteering - I tutor middle and elementary schoolers at the community center as well as volunteer at the library. According to the questionable mental math I just completed, I have accumulated around 2000 hours over the last three years.</p>
<p>Anthropology - Research with one certain fantastic professor has led to the wonderful opportunity to intern at a museum - a 15-20 hour commitment weekly. My essays have involved a lot of musty museum action thus far.</p>
<p>Work - I work at McDonalds. On average, I work 10-12 hours a week to support my own ventures (textbooks, tests, movies, pocket money, what have you).</p>
<p>The anthropology professor offered to write a recommendation. We're very close; I continue to research with her, and she has helped me with various issues. I also asked a CC prof whose daughters I occasionally babysit and the tutoring supervisor.</p>
<p>I've already begun brainstorming for a few of my essays, and they're all a bit on the quirky side. Hopefully they'll turn out as well as I hope.</p>
<p>Schools: HYPS, Brown, Chicago, Cornell, Carleton, Rice, Duke, Swarthmore, Amherst, Williams, UNC-CH. My mom alternates being between extremely worried I won't be accepted anywhere (she was hesitant to let me homeschool to begin with because of this concern) to telling me to shoot for the top, hence the large selection of (very, very selective) schools that would Make Her Happy. I have no qualms with any of them, either.</p>
<p>Oh, and I'm a low-income white female North Carolinian.</p>
