Opinions. Test Optional Colleges. Are They?

My cousin’s son recently graduated from Bowdoin. He applied without sending his ~1400 SAT, but his family was full pay. I don’t know if not needing financial aid can tip the scale at TO schools, but I think it might.

Did the GC say why they have changed their mind? I’m hesitant to take advice from people who say yes one day and no the next. To me, that’s a lot different to someone saying let me think about it one day and then yes or no later.

Our school GC has been honest and says she’s not sure what would be the best course of action to take here. She can’t recall a student from our school ever having applied to either college.

@austinmshauri Bowdoin is need blind. Being full pay is not a bump in admissions.

I wonder if it might be because a 30 is borderline and because Bates’ stats have been nosing up in the last few years. The middle 50% for the class of 2022 was 30-33. For 2023 it was 31-33.
