Hi..I have been scanning the posts for well over a year but don't comment often. Now that DD audition time is here I have become a much more frequent reader!! She has compiled a great list of schools and will start auditions (late I know but due to conflicts this was best) in early January but I am not sure she has enough of a safeties list. She is looking at schools primarily in the midwest and has one non-audition program listed and another school that doesn't have an MT program but a strong non-audition theatre program where she/they feel she could "create" a program that would at least give her a jump on a good MFA program. She is still awaiting word from Muhlenberg-but I was wondering if anyone else can suggest a non-auditon program or a strong BA program just in case?? (preferable midwest) Her academic acceptances have been strong so far so she is hoping for a "good" school but needs a back up in case everything else falls through. Any suggestions? I tried to look up older posts as I am sure this was answered many times but had trouble. Sorry!

Has your D looked at Wichita State? Here are some links to previous discussions with other suggestions:

Does anyone have info on the BA in MT program at the University of Alabama? I realize it is by audition, but I would love a first hand account of the training.

mompop - You may want to post your question here:

Thank you everyone. I had read the “Midwest Safety schools” post but I wasn’t sure if anyone else had any suggestions. I am just trying to avoid disaster if (ugh!!) things don’t go well!!

Thanks…please post any other suggestions for midwest safeties or if anyone has personal experience at what they considered a safty!

Take a look at Ohio Northern. I think it may be audition optional. Several kids from D’s HS were accepted last year (and this year) and I don’t think they actually auditioned. They might have just been seen at the Texas Thespian Convention. It turned out to be too rural for my D, but it’s the 1st choice for one of her friends.

Ohio Northern is BFA by audition. I know they were in Texas at several events in November so I’m guessing that’s how those student were accepted. It was one of the schools my D really liked last year and it stayed very high on her list until final decision day. But we know quite a few kids who have acceptances at other programs who were not accepted at Ohio Northern this year. So not a non-audition safety but definitely a school you may want to check out.

My daughter is a freshman MT major at ONU and it is definitely audition based. Any audition based programs, IMO, are not safeties.

Some of the theatre kids from my daughters high school auditioned for Ohio Northern in Dallas and only one guy got accepted. Apparently students are on pointe in freshman ballet! It would have been a great choice for my daughter because she is primarily a dancer, but unfortunately we found out too late about the audition and won’t be able to go on campus.
