<p>To those applying to Duke this year, what optional essays are you doing (if you are doing them at all)?</p>
<p>I’m only doing the “Why Duke” essay, but I’m also sending in the additional recommendation that can be from a parent, coach, friend etc…</p>

<p>same 1 and 3. I didn’t really do any research, so I’m going to write my Why Duke and get someone to write me the additional rec.</p>
<p>If these are all truly optional do you think they can help us a lot if done well?</p>

<p>Even though the school does say that these essays are truly optional, I’m pretty sure if you do these essays well it’ll really show your initiative and your desire to attend, if it is one of your top choices. The personal essays can really give the admissions committee a better idea of who you are as not only a student, but as a person. So yes, I’d say it could make a big difference, possibly the difference between getting in and not.</p>

<p>i’m sending in the “why trinity” essay. is the “optional” option truly optional? sounds like a trick…</p>
<p>They did stress that they are truly optional- I’m sure a really good essay will help, but not submitting one apparently won’t hurt (and I know a few students who got in and didn’t submit one).</p>
