I've looked through the last few pages of this forum for anything on what I'm going to ask, but I'm not sure if any of the posts answer it. For the question, "(Completely Optional) No admission application can meet the needs of every individual. If you think additional information or material will give us a more thorough impression of you, please respond below. (Please limit your answer to 500 words or fewer.)," is it normal that people would place another personal statement they've written? Or is it strange/random?

(Sorry, I forgot to mention: on the MIT application, I thought it was implied)

Yes, that would be a totally normal thing to put in that space.

You're really free to put absolutely anything your heart desires. Some other normal ways to use that space would be to explain some unusual academic circumstance at your school or in your life, to showcase a piece of writing, or to explain more in depth about one of your extracurriculars. Most people don't use the optional space, but you're allowed to put anything you want into it.

i used the optional section to write about my childhood in new zealand - it was a fun essay to write

I used it to write about music in my life, cause just saying the bands I did in school in my activities section wasn't enough IMO.
