Organ Performance majors?

Anyone applying to music schools for Organ? If so, which ones?

As part of our investigation of schools, we identified those with strong organ programs, however DS has applied in vocal performance. He has looked for a conservatory program where he has the flexibility to build his organ skills. Schools we looked at that you might consider include:

Oberlin
Eastman
McGill
Peabody
Westminster Choir College (don't be deceived by the voice emphasis, although you will need to develop choral skills, which maybe isn't such a bad thing for an organist)

ProOrgano,

You might check out the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. Peter Sykes is a great teacher and you will get tons of personal attention. Boston is a great city and you will have a wealth of opportunities to perform and make some money.

Best,

Westminster Choir College seems perfect. I think there are lots of opportunities for organists in the area too - while waiting for my D to audition there last year, I looked at the job board and there were lots of notices asking for organists. The voice teachers there are top notch too. The choral emphasis was a bit of a drawback for my D but voice majors do some ensemble work pretty much everywhere - it's just a matter of degree.

Rice has an Organ Performance major and a beautiful organ hall. I don't know anyone in the program though since DD is VP.

Great. Thanks for the recommendations. Oberlin as my top choice right now. I'm auditioning in February. We'll see what happens!!! :)
