Hello,

I am a Junior at John Jay College and am a pre-med student. I was thinking of taking Organic Chemistry, General Physics I and General Biology II in the Fall semester. Do you think it is wise to take three science classes together? Is it doable? Or should I just take Organic Chem and Physics in the Fall and Biology in the Spring?

3 sciences classes, which contain labs, first, will be very unwise, secondly, fitting the time to take the classes and study for them will be another set-back. Shift them around in the semester and definitely have a talk with your premed advisor!!! For medical school you need as many A’s as possible. Don’t rush into things. One C can do much much harm.

No, it is too much. You’ll be spread too thin, something will fall thru the cracks, and your grades will likely suffer.

Why are you just taking bio II now? Did you have AP bio credits? If so, use it for Bio II (which is boring) and take some other bio class instead.

Won’t you have a spring semester of physics and organic chem? This sounds like a crazy hard schedule. It appears that you are getting a late start on pre-med requirements. Can you push something to a summer session? Or you may need to accept that you can’t finish in four years and do part of a fifth, or some additional pre med requirements after graduation.

Thanks for all of the replies. I decided that takingg 3 science classes at once was not wise. I have decided to take 2 this semester and take the other next semester.
