Do most parents go to orientation? I asked my friend earlier, and he said that most don't go to orientation. Is that true? I would think that parents would want to hear the information given at orientation

I went, and yes there was a lot of useful information for parents. They keep you very busy and I found it very beneficial.

There were plenty of kids there without parents, but more WITH parents in my observation. The kids don’t have to worry about their parents hanging around with them - USC herds everyone into Bovard and then tells the kids to get up and go and the parents to stay where they are. NO parents are allowed into the counseling/registration sessions.

Thanks, I’ve been wondering about this too.

Yes, we went. There was a LOT of sessions that were very helpful to us parents. One was a panel of seniors who discussed (briefly) their 4 years, and what they recommended to new students (all of them recommended “getting involved”). The “Safety” presentation, that was put on by the Campus Police was reassuring. Also, a favorite was the one where parents (of upper class students, and graduated students) discussed the issues related to “separation”. When you go home, and you are away from your son or daughter, there can be many issues (example: holidays, and whether or not to have them come home, weekends, phone calls, Instant Messaging, etc). USC does a great job, of welcoming the students and the parents. You will not be going to the same sessions as your son or daughter.
