Orientation

yes miss egg

registering laptops? whats that

bringing your laptop to register for the UCD internet services, I believe.

does it say to bring your laptop? o.0

yes, it does.

Don't wait until orientation to register your laptop. Do it now! <a href="https://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu/cgi-bin/services/index.cgi%5B/url%5D">https://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu/cgi-bin/services/index.cgi</a></p>

Click on "Ethernet (NIC) Registration"
Find the MAC address of your laptop.
If you're using Windows:
a) Click the Windows button
b) Type in 'cmd' into the search box Or just open up Command Prompt
c) Type in ipconfig /all in the command prompt
d) Your MAC address will be the numbers looking like 00-01-AB-CD-E7-89 under 'Ethernet Adapter'. Don't mix it up with the Wireless MAC address.. you do NOT need to register that.
e) Type that into the website and register it! (You can register multiple addresses if you'd like)

For Mac:
a) Go to your System Preferences
b) Click on Network
c) Choose your Ethernet connection
In one of those tabs, there should be your MAC address in there. Register that number.

NOTE: BRING YOUR ETHERNET CABLE!!! The dorms have little to no WiFi in the dorms. Trust me, at least over half the students don't bring ethernet cords and have no internet unless they sit in the lounge =P

If you choose not to bring your laptop, you will have to register with the Student Coordinator's laptop. You'll have to wait your turn and by then, your class may have filled up! Good luck =D

NICE! Looks like I won't be without msypace and facebook for 3 days :)

:X I figured this out a few weeks ago, but I didn't know it was the same as the orientation one....Stupid me. Thanks marzxbarz ^^ /cookie for u

Does anyone know about registering two computers? My son is seriously considering bringing his laptop and desktop.

oh everyone who's bringing their laptop. if u play cs and dota. install it on ur laptop :D

1.6? =D I don't have source... =(

I have a favor to ask:
Can somebody kindly sum up a list of stuff needed during orientation? Like the whole registering laptop thing is news to me, thanks.

collegemom16, You can register multiple addresses. Both the desktop and laptop will function with internet if online at the same time.

(Personal opinion: Your son really doesn't need to bring a desktop, I had a desktop and never plugged it in. I decided to throw it out before move-out since it was old. Just get a mouse and keyboard for the laptop and you're set! You can even plug a monitor in if you'd like!)

@minilemon: UC Davis Orientation - Freshmen Student Items To Bring

There's the list @_@

When are you guys going. I wanna play CS :)

I just got back home after attending orientation yesterday. I'm a transfer student...Interesting experience. UCD is a freakin huuuuuge campus...perhaps it's that i went to a relatively small high school and then a community college. That could be why it felt so amazingly big, but i don't know. All i know is there was a LOT of walking and oh soooo many bikes. I can already tell how annoying those bikes are going to be the next 2 years. I don't at all blame them though, because the damn campus is basically a city in itself. I'd ride a bike too if it didn't remind me of something Danny Tanner would do. The presentations were pretty lame in the beggining, i felt like i was at a high school rally...I understand that they were trying to get us excited and fill us with a newly found "aggie pride", but after forcing me to wake up at 6 30 am to get there in time by 8, i really didn't want screaming and loud noise. Perhaps many felt the same way, because later in the day, like 2pm or so, we had more presentations; i kid you not when i say atleast 10 people around me were DONE. They were knocked out cold with their ZzzZ's as the boring details of health services, financial aid, and internship programs were presented to us. Then, after that torture, we finally signed up for classes and left.......That's how the transfer orientation went. I imagine the freshmans would get something similar except it won't all be shoved and forced together, and instead will span over 3 days. That should take away a lot of the "PLEASE FRICKIN END NOW" feeling many of us had by the midway point. Information oveeeeeeeeerlooooooad to say the least for us transfers...

Also, the orientation was completely pointless as far as showing the students around goes. I'm going to be so lost on the first day.

Hahahah I guarantee first-years will suffer the same lectures.. in fact, it might even be longer! If you're wise, you'll skip the last few lectures and go to the MU and play some free bowling (Those passes they give you offer 1 free game of bowling everyday and free ARC access. When you get your student ID's you can use that as your ARC pass as well =])

i'm going 6-8 :]

writes a mental note to skip boring lectures

can we walk out if it's boring :p
