Original Spring Semester Start Dates up!

Hooray for Tulane! The announcement of their handling of the new start-up is up, and it looks good. I am especially proud of their opening their doors to Dillard and Xavier students (as well as Loyola), whose campuses were damaged far worse than Tulane's. I am looking forward to sending my son back to Tulane, and he is anxious to return, even though Cornell has been very good to him.

And, it will be a very interesting Mardi Gras this year!!

You bet! (And jmmom and have already determined that we were separated at birth, so of course we posted about the same thing at virtually the same time!)

I would love to be there to see Mardi Gras this year. I think it would be like watching a phoenix rise from the ashes.

I feel like now that the TP has exposed a lot of the horrific reports from Katrina as urban legend and the national networks are starting to get the word out, we can start to see the fog of doom and despair lift even more from the city we have grown to love. I had a hard time accepting that even a few of the good folks of New Orleans that I have shared streetcars with could sink into the depths of such savage behavior. Now it seems that I don't have to accept it at all.

I believe there will be many opportuities for social justice arising out of all this, too. I know my son wants to be part of that side of things.

thanks for this info, alongfor~. I hadn't been aware, altho had known that some reports were exaggerated. TP = Times Picayune? Can I find what you refer to online?

jmmom, I looked through the electronic archives for Monday and came up with this link for you. I don't know how to post it as a link, so I'll just give you what I found. I believe the name of the article is Murder, Rape, Mayhem.

The computer is smarter than me! (No surprise here.) It did post as a link!

wheee! So exciting!

I just turned in my SSR to my counseler for Early Action for Tulane. I did recieve some raised eyebrows, but hey, i KNOW everything will be all up and running by next year (sooner, probably), and this announcement made me very happy. Go Tulane!

Anyone tried hotel reservations yet for Orientation? Online chat 9/30 said there will be some parent activities, altho a bit streamlined from the original August orientation. No details as yet, I don't believe.

I just booked a hotel online..it's not in the Garden District
but across from Harrahs. Not many uptown hotels seem to be taking reservations---yet.

I'll hold onto this one and keep trying to get the hotel I'd prefer. I was surprised at how many New Orleans hotels ARE taking reservations but many state they aren't accepting reservations before a certain date (in the case of the hotel I booked, it was 1/1/06).

Thanks, curiouser, the one I prefer and a couple others weren't taking online res yet. One I tried is booked through April with relief workers etc. (which, actually, gave me a good feeling). I'll check with DS as to which move-in day he wants and then try your plan of getting a bird in the hand and then trying later for my first choice.

I was wondering if Thurs. & Fri. (the 12th & 13th) were move in dates strictly for freshmen & the other students would be expected to move in during that weekend? Does anyone know?

According to the FAQ's, those move-in dates are not just for Freshmen, as I read it.

Wow, that's gonna be a tough couple days

Thanks so much for the response & the information. I had read that but thought I read on one of the Fri. chats that the move in dates were for new students. Well, time to plan then.
