does anyone know how dodmerb handles orthodontics? especially retainers

If you have any active orthodontic appliances on your teeth you will be medically disqualified by DODMERB. Retainers are not a problem.

According to a lady our son has been dealing with at DoDMERB, removable retainers are fine but permanent retainers will disqualify you.

whew thats some good news...

Do you have to let DoDMERB know you are using a retainer after being qualified?

Darla,

I have to disagree with you. Our son was told by DoDMERB that any retainer is fine, fixed or removable. It is only braces themselves that are cause for DQ.

Stealth -- Just repeating what DoDMERB told our son. I wonder if it's different for the different branches. Boy, that would great if permanent ones are okay. Looks like son's braces are coming off in 3 weeks and I don't think we're going to take any chances with a permanent retainer.

My roommate used her removable retainer during plebe summer and still uses it. Honestly I do not know about being DQ for braces before entering, that's pretty dumb.
I got mine done here last month :D

My son, class of 2010, has a permanent bottom retainer. Was never DQ'ed for it. Other things...but not that.

My son, also class of 2010, has permanent bottom retainer. Never came up in physical and was not DQ'ed. Never even though it was an issue.
