I understand -- and could very well be misinformed, which is why I'm asking -- that there are discussions among OSCA members to jettison the Kosher-Halal Coop...and I wonder if this is true?

See: OSCA - Wilder Hall 402

Apart from the fact that the timing for this would be "awkward" (if I may be permitted to understate this), it seems counter to OSCA core principles to have these discussions -- if that's what is happening.

My understanding is that Kosher-Halal doesn't purchase enough from small, local food producers...but, if that's true and if that's a litmus-test issue for continued OSCA membership, has there been an effort with OSCA to encourage local food producers to respond to the Kosher-Halal dietary demands? If Kosher-Halal isn't participating in conversations about its future, how can there be progress toward the goals the other OSCA members are prioritizing? And is OSCA about propping up local food producers regardless of what they produce -- or is it about genuine fair trade, which includes fair dealing on the part of producers who should be reasonably expected to bend with consumer demand in return for fair dealing and even prioritized purchasing from the consumers?

Particularly given the frustrations and vulnerabilities of students on account of recent events, I'm curious/concerned about this. But there's a dearth of information and the process seems secretive or it is, in fact, secretive, so I'd like to know more about what's going on (if anything). I really need facts, not whispers. Anyone who has more information or who can direct me to where I can find more information will receive 5 stars from me. Thanks.
