Thanks all. I really can’t thank you enough. I now have a solid itinerary. I booked all the flights. Also booked an airport hotel in Oslo for my 1 night there. Now time to book hotels in Stockholm and Copenhagen.
In Stockholm and Copenhagen I want to stay at the center of action that is close to Christmas Markets, restaurants and bars.
What regions shall I look into. Or maybe tell me a landmark to book my hotel by. Again, Oslo is taken care. Need area recommendations for only Stockholm and Copenhagen.
In Copenhagen, I can recommend Kong Arthur. It’s not in the heart heart heart of activity but close to everything. The bar and lobby seemed to be a bit of a local gathering spot (which we liked, as opposed to lots of tourists.) We chose it as it was close to a friend’s home, but I’d go back – it felt more like a local neighborhood. Very close to that wonderful food hall!!
In Stockholm, the places near the water were quite charming. But I have only been there in summer, so can’t vouch for that in November.
I mentioned that we stayed at the Sheraton in Stockholm. Walking distance to pretty much everywhere and just a short distance to the train that goes to the airport.
We also stayed at hotel Reisen on Gamlastan - now a part of Hyatt.
Thank you @BunsenBurner I will definitely look into those hotels. So you recommend the areas where these hotels are. I am using my Hotel Points as well so I will look for the ones I can use my points on.
If you have not stayed in typical European hotels, beware of their double beds. They are literally doubled twin beds! These twins can slide apart at night, and my husband has fallen into the “crevasse” between them a couple of times in his sleep! American brands usually have real queen mattresses, as we discovered. My husband now always brings some ties to tie the bed legs together if we get into a room with such double beds!
We also stayed at the Radisson located in the Arlanda airport to be able to catch our very early morning flight. The hotel was very nice and completely soundproof! We ate dinner in the cafe overlooking the terminal and watched the planes take off and land into the sunset.
Have stayed in the Radisson Blu near the Sheraton in Stockholm. Central and convenient location - but not so neighborhood-y. But this is an option, particularly if you are using hotel points.
I would get reservations at some of the restaurants in Copenhagen now (if you are a foodie). Geranium and Alchemist are two that are hot.
I think you already have an itinerary, but here are my top spots:
Oslo: Viking Museum, Kon-Tiki museum, Fram. All can be easily done in one day and close to each other. Are you a Munch fan? (painted ‘The Scream’) … haven’t been to that museum but many like it.
Stockholm: Vasa. absolutely. plan to spend time to wander and check out exhibits. Gamla Stan. (stay in Gamla Stan if you can).
Copenhagen: visit the Royal Palaces (Christianborg - go up in the Palace Tower), Nyhavn (find a sunny day to visit), The Round Tower, eat. If you have time, take the train to Kronborg, but you may not have time.
have a great time. three of my favorite cities!
(oh yeah, don’t forget to eat a cinnamon roll in Copenhagen. they are “kanelsnegl” and they are amazing! All the pastries are amazing there!)
We stayed here: and loved it!
and if you are more into street food than Michelin, try Reffen (have to take a bus there though). If you want somewhere close to Nyhavn, try Broens Gadekøkken. We walked there more than one evening from Kanalhuset.
Stockholm. Husband wanted authentic Swedish cuisine. We meandered around and found this place where we had a couple of great meals - KB Restaurant:
We also had a couple of memorable meals at Eriks Gondolen before it closed. Rumors are a new chef re-opened the restaurant with a new menu… if so, I highly recommend making a reservation because this place has the best views in the city!
Awesome recommendations. Can’t thank you enough. At work now. Can’t wait for weekend to check out all the places you recommended to finalize my itinerary. A heartfelt thank you to both.
