OSU's Student Newspaper

I’m wondering how good their newspaper is and what kind of possibilities there are for photojournalists. Also, do they pay for your work or help with any type of internship searches? Thanks.

I receive the online version via email and it is very poorly written. Sorry, but it's true. They like sensational headlines and controversial viewpoints.

I don't know about photos in the print version.

The bizarre thing is I can't remember the name. I'll ask my D and post it later.

Behold...!

The Lantern

It's not good, they're having a lot of problems right now with the Journalism department. There's a funny antilantern blog run by other journalism students who mock its poorly written articles.

U Weekly - another campus paper though the unofficial one - pays people for their work, I think, though.

actually The Lantern is regularly cited by the Society of Professional Jorrnalist for excelllence, most recently as the best editorial writing and best online student newspaper.

It seems to have become the popular thing at OSU to criticize The Lantern but in reality you won't find many student newspapers that are better. The fact that they are able to put out a daily newspaper is impressive in its self, many universities are only weekly.

Additionally, as the person above me mentioned, the paper is frequently awarded various honors nationally.

The Lantern could certainly be improved, funding has recently become an issue, but it's better than most other colleges student newspapers.

I hate to say it, but having one son at OSU and one at Indiana University, I prefer IU's student newspaper which also comes out on a daily basis.
