I am applying to all three of the main Maine (hah) liberal arts colleges: Bates, Bowdoin, and Colby. What is Bates like compared to the other two? Academically, socially, town-wise, atmosphere-wise…

I visited all 3 in one day (haha) and my impressions were that Colby and Bowdoin seemed a little more traditional college atmosphere (the frat house atmosphere is definitely more prevalent at these two, though they no longer have fraternities or sororities, than at Bates, where they never existeed). Personally, I liked Bates best because of its beautiful campus and the academic rigor (their “major +2” program is really interesting). I hope this helps!
