<p>I'm applying to college now and I have two older siblings that are also undergrads. How will that affect the need-based aid I receive? Does that mean that the family contribution is shared among the three of us? Does it matter which schools they go to?</p>

<p>It generally means the EFC is shared among the three, though not just 1/3. Use the FA calculator for the schools in which you’re interested to see how they use the numbers.</p>
<p>And remember this only works well at schools that meet 100% of need.</p>
<p>Yes, you might be surprised how different colleges look at it. I had 3 in college and had differences of over 5.000 depending how the college met need and even when they were the same!</p>
