Other Smart Students with low SAT scores?! Help??

I got a 1290 on my SAT very very bad yes i know :(. I have a 4.2 weighted gpa and a 4.0 unweighted so that shows you i'm not dumb. And im always worrying about how im not going to get in a 4 year university, im very stressed out when it comes to college applications this year for me. Please can some one give me advice on what to do?!
- I'm going to apply to all the UC's but i have a feeling that im not going to get in, any of them.

Well , my sat performance is also not as good as my school results. But still SAT is unfortunately a great test and many students perform very well… SAT is completely different kind of challenging test.I am also trying to improve my SAT score.Don’t worry Take SAT once more and put all yours efforts into it.

I’ve heard that some people do better on the ACTs, so maybe you could try that. The only other thing you could really do is study more or get a tutor. Good luck!

Sorry to say this, but high GPA/low SAT typically indicates rampant grade inflation. Try the ACT I guess, or study harder. However, when students have low SAT scores but high GPAs that’s usually a signal to schools that the high school is not very competitive.

dont worry. try it in october- that way you will be ready to apply for colleges! and dont stress- sats are not the only score colleges look at. my sat score doesnt show how much smart I am either! so im just motivating myself that I will apply to many schools and try to get it in!

I’d just like to say SAT doesn’t measure IQ. Sure there are some correlations, but really it has nothing to do with one another.

Some suggestions: Take the ACT, because it’s a lot more straightforward.

Or start studying. Because it’s going to take lots of time, money, and #nolife weekends. ;D

Sorry, but such a high GPA and such a low SAT score indicate either ridiculous grade inflation at your school and/or scores that result from students that have very little “natural sense” but a lot of strict memorization and whatnot, neither of which colleges want.

My daughter didn’t score very high on the SAT (1690) or ACT (24) either but has a high GPA (4.02 weighted, 3.8 unweighted) and is ranked in the top 13% of her class (100th out of 756 students). She goes to a very competitive high school and there is no grade inflation at all. She is a bright girl and a good student. Her birthday is in Oct so she will be 17 when she graduates from High School. We have been paying for her to go to tutoring for SAT and ACT and she will be taking the tests again in Sept and Oct. I think some kids just aren’t good standardized test takers. It doesn’t necessarily mean there is grade inflation or they don’t go to a competitive school.

No offence but that’s really low. Are you sure you didn’t bs the whole test? Maybe you were really nervous at that time? Try to take the test again. If you still get the same score, go study!!

Do you have any AP scores to support your high gpa?
Any SAT II subject tests?

Big red flag when the SAT scores are so low in comparison to a high gpa.
No one is saying you are less intelligent but what is your preparedness to do university level work and pass the tests.

Well, my daughter got a 5 on her AP Biology exam and a 4 on her AP English exam. She certainly mastered the material. She had a very hard AP Biology teacher. As I stated her school is very competitive.
