heyy everyone!
i think i have finally taken my decision....im goin to cornell with a Loan(all in my name) of about 34k a year...sigh.......choosin cornell over UVa, Hopkins, Amherst and $8k at UMCP, and a full ride at UMBC.
wow paying it back could get so tough....
does any1 feel im takin a decision i might regret in the future!?
please lemme know......i just dont know wut to do!

UMCP is in state

If Cornell is your first choice, then no matter what the cost you're in the right place. Give yourself a pat on the back for taking on so much of the tuition yourself.. You'll really appreciate the education you're getting. :)

34k/year? They couldn't help you out with any more financial aid? You must have one of those issues where your parents enough money to cover some of the tuition, but can't allocate such a large chunk of their earnings for Cornell.

I'd say it won't be easy paying it all back, but you'll be happy in the end. I think you're making the right choice if you do really want to go to Cornell.

nah my parents could care less about me.....as long as im outta the house.

Well, I didn't want to put it in that context because I thought it might offend you, but that's also another possibility.

I always wondered what would happen if an applicant had super-wealthy parents and therefore didn't qualify for aid, but the parents refused to pay. Either the applicant declares himself an independent, or just takes monstruous loans I suppose.

where in md are you from btboxpunk

you have to think about your future too. If you're going into a field where it is very likely that you will make enough money to pay back your loans then definitely go for it. But if you're going to be like a music major or an artist or a teacher it might not be the best idea because you're barely going to make enough money to pay the bills let a lone pay off college loans.

jeez i'd go for the full ride if i were you

montgomery country...maryland.
aite ppl thats it!! if it was upto me id go for the full ride too!
its like id be with all ym friends in a huge house...have an awesome car, chics, big screen tv, lots of free time...good job etc. and still be at the top of my class...(just that id be at UMBC, a third tier school in Baltimore)
but the problem is that evry1 in my family are like ivy grads...
an my siblings, cousins really feel like its all worth it.....an they dont want me to be the only one getting a sub standard education....at cornell, id be like workin hard evry day..takin loans....not have a car an stuff etc., but apparently ill get an education thatd gimme a boost for the rest of my life.

hey im from moco too and i have the same problem... full ride UMCP, full tuition Duke and only 10,000 to my dream school Cornell... which is the only one that has the vast resources and programs for my major... :(

btboxpunk, did they all have to pay 34k or more a year though?

prncssnyansema- you can probably use duke to bargain with Cornell.

nope........my brother got a scholarship.
and my dad paid for my sister.

If I were you, I would go for the full ride no matter what the school's reputation or academics is like.

MoCo is freakin loaded with cornellians, where are all the AACo people??? anyway, i would definitely go with cornell if i were you btboxpunk, as for Esi, you have a much, much harder choice, full ride at duke is hard for anyone to pass up.

"If I were you, I would go for the full ride no matter what the school's reputation or academics is like."

That's a bunch of garbage...I had full rides to more than five schools, and I'm choosing to go to Cornell...and paying every damn penny of it. To me, it's worth it in the end to be in a place with other smart students and to get a top-notch education. In some ways, it's like an investment in your future.

However, Duke is a great school also, and a full scholarship there is hard to beat...
